Plăcerea de a lectura unele opere nu poate fi înlocuită cu nimic pentru iubitorii genului livresc. În acest mod de delectare şi deconectare spiritele exultă, iar intelectul şi imaginaţia însoţind gratuit fiecare cuvânt parcurs conferă o reuşită deosebită unei astfel de aventuri. Lecturarea unor opere fantastice din copilărie contribuie enorm în conturarea personalităţii, conduitei în societate , aspiraţiilor etc. În cadrul acestor opere majore, fantastice, ştiinţifico-fantastice , fantasticului popular şi cult, educaţiei religioase şi civice care conferă un tonus psihic , mental şi intelectual deosebit , se regăseşte creaţia mai multor autori ai literaturii mondiale. Dintre aceşti autori doresc să menţionez în aceste rânduri un autor puţin cunoscut în România , dar foarte cunoscut în rândul cititorilor de literatură şi catehism neoprotestant. Vorbesc despre renumitul altfel Clives Staples Lewis.
C. S. Lewis este un autor de origine irlandeză , născut la Belfast, Irlanda la 29 nov. 1898. El este fiul lui Albert James Lewis (1863–1929), descendentul unor fermieri galezi, și Flora Augusta Hamilton Lewis (1862–1908), fiică de preot. În tinereţe C. S. Lewis a avut o atitudine mai mult apropiată de ateism. În timpul studenţiei a publicat un volum de poezie “Spirite înrobite“. Studiile le-a realizat la Universitatea Oxford unde a rămas în calitatea de lector de literatură şi filosofie engleză. Devine unul dintre cei mai apreciaţi scriitori şi oratori ai Oxfordului , abia în 1954 trecând la Cambridge unde obţine postul de profesor şef de catedră de literatură medievală engleză.
C. S. Lewis este unanim apreciat ca fiind un savant cu o vastă cultură filosofică, ştiinţifică şi literară. El a scris peste 70 de lucrări de o mirifică varietate tematică : apologetică creştină, romane ştiinţifico-fantastice , poezie, critică literară, filosofie. Aprecierile criticilor oscilează armonios între “una dintre cele mai logice minţi ale secolului” şi “ una dintre cele mai imaginative minţi ale secolului“. Câteva critici mai maliţioase şi mai puţin onorante vin din partea unor autori atei care reproşează actele reprobabile săvârşite în istoria omenirii în numele religiei.
“Alegoria iubirii” (1936) reprezintă un studiu al dragostei cavalereşti în literatură. Critica literară este prezentă prin”O prefaţă la Paradisul pierdut” (1941). “Abolirea omului” (1943) insistă pe necesitatea unei etici normative sub aspect raţional şi social. “Miracole” (1947) construieşte o defensivă filosofică a posibilităţii producerii miracolelor. “Reflectări despre Psalmi” (1958) şi “Scrisori despre Malcolm, în special despre rugăciune” (1963) dezbat probleme ale vieţii spirituale personale. În planul ştiinţifico-fantastic , C. S. Lewis realizează o trilogie : “Din planeta tăcută” (1938), “Perelandra” (1943), “Acea hidoasă putere” (1945). ” Aceste cărţi ţes creştinismul într-un răvăşitor de frumos mit cosmic şi îl fac să iradieze pentru noi uluitoare promisiuni eterne” (Introducere la “Creştinismul redus la esenţe“, Societatea Misionară Română, 1991.)
C. S. Lewis se adresează copiilor prin “Cronica ţării Narnia” concepută prin şapte volume. Deasemenea “Scrisorile lui Screwtape” (1941) conţin sfaturile unui demon bătrân către unul tânăr. Cele 29 de emisiuni la Radio Londra au fost publicate şi cunoscute în engleză sub numele de “Mere Christianity“, iar în Romania sub numele de “Creştinismul redus la esenţe“.
Sub aspect teologic scrierile lui C. S. Lewis surprind o raţiune de fier, conformistă , axiomatică. Atras de partea credinţei , C. S. Lewis a subscris anglicanismului ceea ce l-a apropiat atât de mult de lumea protestantă şi neoprotestantă. Nefiind un teolog , statutul său laic îl apropie de viziunea postmodernă a ecumenismului ceea ce îl face din ce în ce mai actual şi apreciat.
Personal i-am citit primele lucrări în urmă cu douăzeci de ani , dar nu a fost autorul meu predilect pentru lectură cu toate că am constatat dimensiunea intelectuală de rang mondial a operelor sale. Prietenia lui C.S. Lewis cu John Ronald Reuen Tolkien , autorul celebrului roman “Stăpânul inelelor” şi “The Hobbit“, profesor şi el la Oxford şi membru a unui grup literar select : “The Inklings“, a contribuit enorm la dezvoltarea genului ştiinţifico-fantastic.
C. S. Lewis s-a căsătorit târziu , abia în 1954 cu Joy Gresham, fiiind o fire solitară din acest punct de vedere. Moare în anul 1963 la 22 noiembrie cu o săptămână înainte de a împlini 65 de ani.
Puteţi să observaţi astfel că evocarea lui în aceste rânduri nu este întâmplătoare . Se împlinesc în acest an (2013) 50 (semicentenar) de ani de la trecerea în nefiinţă a lui C. S. Lewis. În România momentul a fost marcat şi la Oradea cu prezenţa unor personalităţi . Biblioteca Judeţeană “Gheorghe Şincai” a găzduit evenimentul comemorativ C.S. Lewis prilejuind prelegerile renumitului om de cultură american prof. dr. Jerry Root de la Universitatea Wheaton Illinois, USA. Talentul oratoric deţinut de către J. Root , susţinut şi de o vastă pregătire ştiinţifică, livrescă, creştină a încântat publicul insuficient de numeros dată fiind importanţa evenimentului.
Influenţa şi impactului genului fantastic popular sau cult asupra intelectului şi psihicului uman sunt îndeobşte recunoscute. Genul fantastic este prezent din antichitate în toate civilizaţiile, fiind bine ilustrat şi în mitologia greco-romană. “Odiseea“, “Iliada“, Metamorfozele” lui Apuleius din Madaura sau Ovidiu au constituit o sursă pentru literatura ştiinţifico-fantastică a Evului Mediu. “Cântecul lui Roland“, “Cântecul Nibelungilor“, “Divina Comedie” a lui Dante Alighieri, “Decameronul” lui Boccaccio , “Gargantua şi Pantagruel” a lui Fr. Rabelais sunt tot atâtea exemple prodigioase ale aceluiaşi gen. Epoca modernă excelează prin operele lui E.T.A. Hoffmann, fraţii Grimm, Andersen, Selma Lagerlöff, Jules Verne, “Lacul Lebedelor“, Lewis Carroll(“Alice în Ţara Minunilor“) etc.
Între modern şi contemporaneitate pot fi enumeraţi autorii mai sus menţionaţi (C.S. Lewis , Tolkien), prefaţând împreună cu J. Verne, Lewis Carroll genul ştiinţifico-fantastic. Ei sunt continuaţi într-un mod strălucit de către Frank Herbert prin “Dune” sau mai recent de către J. Rowling prin “Harry Potter“.
